![]() ![]() If you have an interest in the Army Navy Game, by all means read this book. Knowing that has made my reading of all his other books more enjoyable. In the case of A Civil War, I know that his insight is 20/20. Rarely, does the reader have any background to test whether what he is telling us is the actual truth or the author's creation. Feinstein manages to get inside the ropes and minds of his subject in every one of his books. John Feinstein may be the finest sports writer of all time. The symbolism of the Game so transcends the actual event, that without that understanding, some might think the Army Nave Game is only a football game. As the parent of a midshipman (and now a Field Force Officer for West Point) I can ensure the reader that this look inside the Army Navy Game captures not only the spirit of this singular event, but presents an accurate view of the depth of the meaning this event has. Rome considers Feinstein to be one of the most intelligent people he's interviewed on the show, and occasionally teases him about an over-the-phone interview that was interrupted by Feinstein's daughter. He is a columnist for the Washington Post, an author, is a guest commentator on NPR, and does color commentary for United States Naval Academy football games.
